The Lake region on Mars
Perseverance happily arrived at its final destination. Yesterday, a small NASA rover landed in Jezero, a crater on Mars that was given a place by the municipality in our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Around Jezera there are, as we assume, ancient riverbeds and they are named after the rivers in BiH: Neretva, Sava and Pliva. NASA’s website states that the connection between Mars and BiH began in 2007, when the International Astronomical Union (IAU) named the crater in the dried lake bed on the Red Planet after a municipality in BiH, following the tradition of calling places in space places on Earth.

In November 2018, 11 years after the Lake Crater was named, NASA designated this crater as the landing site of the small rover Perseverance (persistence or perseverance). And today the rover sent us the first pictures of its surroundings in color. Rover is “healthy” and is currently testing its systems; and he delighted us with a spectacular photo of the landing — namely, he filmed the landing via an ingenious system of rocket pushers and a “space crane”. The rover could start moving on Mars as early as the end of February.
